IMPORT CUSTOMS INFORMATION – BAHRAIN

We require the consignee’s passport copy (picture page), Residence Permit (Stamped by Bahrain immigration upon arrival into the country), Consignee Authorization Letter (Format will be provided). If the shipment includes Private Owned Vehicle there will be 5% customs Duty and 10% VAT applicable based on CIF value of the vehicle (As per the prevailing market rate assessed by customs) or the cost of which will depend on the value of the car provided by the client.

The Following documents are required latest by 10 days prior to arrival of Used HHGS shipment via SEA:
 
  • Express B/L copy
  • Copy of Packing list
  • Original invoice – for New HHGS Items (Customs duty @ 5% and VAT @ 10%)
  • Scan of Passport
  • Scan of Bahrain Residence Permit (this is endorsed on the passport)
  • An authorization letter template to be filled up and scanned back (the delivery address and local contact number need to be mentioned as well) -– The letter format will be provided by us.

If the client is working in Saudi Arabia but residing in Bahrain;

  • Scan of Passport
  • Scan of Saudi Iqama (Saudi Residence Permit/ID Card)
  • Scan of CPR (Bahrain ID Card) – If the client doesn’t have the CPR by the time the shipment arrives, he will need to obtain a letter from his company stating that his CPR is under process and his presence might be required at the time of clearance of the Sea shipment.
  • Copy of the House Lease Agreement in Bahrain
  • The attached authorization letter template to be filled up and scanned back (the delivery address and local contact number need to be mentioned as well) – The letter format will be provided by us.

  • Original Certificate of Title – for vehicles
  • Original invoice (with value) if available – for vehicles
  • Clients Passport Copy
  • Clients Residence Permit (Stamped by Bahrain immigration upon arrival to the country)
  • Original Export Bayan / Certificate
The cargo description on the BL should correctly show the make/model of the vehicle, color, chassis & engine number. ALL DETAILS MENTIONED ON THE B/L SHOULD BE CORRECT.
Vehicles above 5 years old are restricted to import except diplomatic/Military and classic/antique category. Prior approval from Traffic Directorate in Bahrain should be obtained by the registered owner.
 
The Following documents are required latest by 3 days prior to arrival of Used HHGS shipment via AIR:
 
There is no customs duty applicable for importing used personal effects into Bahrain via Air freight.
 
  • MAWB copy (Must Not state Co-Load)
  • Packing List
  • Scan of Passport
  • Scan of CPR (Bahrain ID Card)
  • An authorization letter template to be filled up and we will arrange to collect the original from the client. (the delivery address and local contact number need to be mentioned as well) – The letter format will be provided by us.

If the client is working in Saudi Arabia but residing in Bahrain;

  • Scan of Passport
  • Scan of Saudi Iqama (Saudi Residence Permit/ID Card)

Customs Clearance period:
 
Used HHGS via Sea freight i.e. FCL/Groupage: 4 to 7 working days. Customs inspection takes place in the port and delivery of shipment takes place on the same day, unless there are any unavoidable circumstances. Our destination service includes normal clearance, delivery to client’s residence, stair carry till 2 nd floor in case few items do not fit in the service elevator, long carry up to 50 meters, offloading, 100% unpacking on flat service, simple/basic reassembly of used furniture dismantled at origin, removal of debris on day of competition of unpacking.
For unaccompanied air freight: 2-4 working days – delivery can be arranged during weekdays / working hours only
 
Important note:
 
  • In case the shipment arrives on a Thursday, Friday or Saturday which are the weekends in the Middle East including public holidays where public offices/Ministries are closed as well, there will be a possibility of delay in customs clearance and chances of port Storage/demurrage to incur. All these additional charges will be to the actual consignee’s account unless otherwise specified, which should be paid prior to delivery of shipment.
  • All importation of Household Goods and Personal Effects go through X-Ray scanning during Customs Clearance hence please avoid the following items in the shipment :
 
PROHIBITED ARTICLES
 
  • All pornographic literature, videos, films/figurines and pictures (including simple nudity of all kinds even women wearing undergarments or swimsuits).
  • Combustible liquids like alcohols, lubricants, anti-freeze compounds
  • Explosives lie fireworks, flashbulbs, ammunition.
  • Wireless transmitters, communication equipment and satellite receivers/dish antennas, Firearms,ammunition, explosives or weapons of any nature even if they are antiques or decorative items
  • Medicines will be seized and sent to the Ministry of health for drug check. Narcotic and Psychotropic substances are banned, and importer will be liable for severe prosecution.
  • Political and Religious literature which might be deemed offensive to Islam or Kuwait Govt. is banned and liable for severe prosecution.
  • Products of Israel, Alcoholic beverages & beer manufacturing kits
  • Drugs & gambling equipment
  • Pork products
  • Compressed Gas like aerosol cans, fire extinguishers, scuba diving tanks, propane (BBQ) tanks
  • Raw Wood Materials like jungle gym/swing set/outdoor sheds, untreated shelving/loose wood/craft wood, untreated furniture
  • Flammables like gasoline, butane, propane, lighter fluid, perfume/cologne, matches, oil-based wood stains, oil-based garden sprays, paint, varnish remover, charcoal briquettes, signal flares, candles (with or without wick)
  • Live plants, dried flower/plants, chemicals, poisons, seeds, fresh fruits, No Food items which includes all types/kinds of alcoholic beverages including medicine.
  • Candles – such items will easily melt/deformed during transit or while container is sitting inside the port for clearance during peak Summer time (July – September). Client must be fully aware of the extreme climate temperature.
Failure to adhere to the above will lead to long delays at customs, huge penalty and / or possibility of returning the shipment to Origin country and charges of which will have to be borne by the Shipper/owner of the shipment.
