IATA-and-Travalyst-to-Collaborate-on-Flight-CO2-Emission-Calculations - ISS Relocations

A collaboration between IATA and Travalyst on CO2 emissions calculations will take place

Geneva – Travalyst and the International Air Transport Association (IATA) have teamed up to provide consumers with a consistent, accurate, and widely available carbon footprint calculation.

The upcoming and major collaboration effort will improve the transparency, accuracy, and consistency of how a traveler’s carbon footprint is calculated. This is as the aviation and travel industries come together to achieve net zero CO2 goals.

In addition to experts in technical and operational expertise, both Travalyst and IATA have an in-depth understanding of the traveler, which will make it easier for them to align their CO2 emission calculations. A key objective of this collaboration will be to develop both data and standardized methodologies for route-based passenger CO2 emissions calculations. A shared position will be adopted on sustainable aviation fuels.

The consumer is interested in knowing how their travels affect the environment. Incorporating climate impacts into their methodologies is something that both Travalyst and IATA are constantly working to improve. Our goal is to provide consumers with easy access to consistent calculations of their travel’s environmental impact”, said Willie Walsh, Director General of IATA.

It is the first time that the airlines and travel technology sectors have come together in this way, according to Travalyst CEO Sally Davey. The decarbonization of the sector is considered a milestone. A climate emergency demands that travelers have precise, accurate information about their carbon footprint in order to make informed travel decisions. In order to provide consumers with the most accurate carbon calculations, we are bringing some of the world’s leading travel brands together with the world’s leading airline association.”
