DoD Lithium Battery - ISS Relocations

A Survey on the Depth of Discharge for Lithium Battery Policy

TRANSCOM requested that IAM put out a survey to get feedback from the moving industry on TRANSCOM’s policy of moving used lithium batteries or equipment with lithium batteries within a household goods shipment.

We surveyed IAM members and non-members who are involved in DoD’s personal property program to get their perspectives. We asked if they were aware of the DoD policy, if their companies already move these kinds of items, if they had trained staff in this area, and if they were prepared to implement the policy. The results weren’t surprising.

IAM is constantly collaborating with DoD and government shippers to establish a fair policy within a reasonable time frame. We are also connecting with Department of Transportation Hazmat trainers and commercial hazmat training providers so we can share info about updates regarding the inclusion of customer lithium batteries/products in personal property shipments.

Expert content on shipping lithium batteries will be available as part of our IAM Annual Meeting agenda. In addition, DOT’s Hazmat training expert has been invited to participate in a webcast on IAM Learning taking place on 25 August at 1 pm ET. Register now for that special session. The latest information and updates about this important topic can be found on IAM’s Facebook page, LinkedIn, the eGov newsletter, and the IAM news feed.
